Mangalore, Jan 2, 2014: A total of 25 Muslim couples entered into a wedlock through a dowry-free mass marriage ceremony organized by Karnataka State Sunni Students’ Federation (SSF) as a part of silver jubilee celebrations held at Nehru Maidan on Jan 2, Thursday.
Shaikhuna Assayyed Abdurrahman Al-Bukhari and Shaikhuna M A Abdul Khader Musliyar conducted the Nikah’ ceremony for25 couples.
Speaking at the inaugural address, A P Aboobakkar Musliyar, general secretary of All India Sunni Ulema Federation Kanthapuram said that in the present day, Dowry has become more of a business, due to which the families of girls are suffering, while getting their daughters married off.
He also said that, the young generation must support dowry-free marriages to end such evil system. He also lauded the efforts of organization for conducting such a meaningful event, which will help the poor families during marriage and pursue their education too.
Y Abdullah Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University released the silver jubilee celebration logo of the federation, while Usman Haji Mittur released a memorial edition ‘Ishara’.
Around 25,000 SSF members took part in the oath taking ceremony pledging not to demand dowry.
Sayyed Fazal Koyamma Tangal, Abdul Hameed Musliyar, Yedappal Mahamood Musliyar, MLA Moideen Bawa, Usman Haji and others were present.
