SDPI district chief booked for holding Babri Expo event at Ullal

Mangaluru, Feb 07, 2019: The Ullal police have filed a suo moto case against Athavulla Jokatte, the District President of the SDPI for organising the Babri Expo event near the Sayyed Madani Darga at Ullal on February 1.

The event which was organised demanding reconstruction of Babri Masjid featured a short play which showed the demolition of the mosque, offering pooja to Lord Ram and a procession of RSS men.

The police personnel on security duty during the event as is the rules had videographed the event and had presented it to senior officials who have now initiated action.

Cases under IPC sections 505, 298, 153A, 149 and 105 and Section 109 of Karnataka Police Act have been filed against Athavulla.

The police action has led to sharp reaction from the SDPI which even staged a protest on Tuesday. The party has also blamed the District in-charge Minister UT Khader for the same. However the Congress has denied the charges.
