SC/ST grievance redressal meet : SI accused of offending Dalit

 Mangaluru, Jan 7, 2015: A few  Dalit leaders who had participated in the SC/ST Grievance Redressal meeting held at the SP office here on January 6, Tuesday accused an SI of  abusing a Dalit instead of initiating action with regard a case registered by the latter.

The issue was raised by S.P. Anand, a Dalit leader. However, there was some confusion when some other participants in the meeting, refuted the allegation and claimed that the SI who has been blamed had in fact helped many Dalits in earlier cases.

Finally,  Dr Sharanappa, SP put a full stop to discussions on the issue by stating that he would look into the details.

On this occasion Dalit leader Anand also requested the SP to ensure the presence of the  officials of the BR Ambedkar Development Corporation, Social Welfare Department as well as the SP of Civil Rights Enforcement cell at the meeting.

There was even a complaint that some  autorickshaws were ferrying children above the permissible limits  to schools. The SP stated that a comprehensive child safety plan is in the offing to tackle the problem.

Regarding to the frequent traffic snarls on Charmadi Ghat following the closure of Shiradi Ghat for traffic, the SP said measures  have been taken to   ensure there is minimum inconvenience to motorists using Charmadi Ghat.
