Mangalore, June 20, 2014: : Hotelier Chandrahas Devadiga of Padavinangady in Mangalore who was famous for his plateful of meal for Rs 10 even in this age of soaring prices, is no more. He passed away on June 19, Thursday at his residence here following a cardiac arrest. Devadiga was 58 years of age. He who had retired to bed as usual on Wednesday night, died in his sleep.
Incidentally, his hotel which had closed down for a week recently, had opened in a new premises just on June 16, Monday. Several people and well wishers paid their last respects to Chandrahas.
His hotel located at Padavinangady near Yeyyady offered plateful of meals for Rs 10 and was very popular. Devadiga has been running the hotel since 1977. During those days he used to offer meals for Rs 2 and increased the price to Rs 5 in 1990. The price increased to Rs 8 in 2002 and then to Rs 10.
Next to the Parliament Hotel in Delhi, his was the only hotel in India that offered meals for Rs 10. Even the ABC Channel had recently aired a programme regarding him.
