Revenue in Palakkad Railway Division improves

Mangaluru, Apr 11, 2015: Speaking at the Railway Week celebrations at Palakkad, Divisional Railway Manager said that the division was adjudged the runner-up for General Manager’s Overall Efficiency Shield for 2014-15. Palakkad Division of Southern Railway shows an increase of 23.58 per cent in its earnings, from Rs. 992.64 crore in 2013-14 to Rs. 1,226.77 crore during 2014-15.

He went on to state the division achieved the highest-ever total loading of 8.25 metric tonnes (MT) during the year, surpassing 8.146 MT the previous year despite a sharp decline in coal loading. The division has recorded 94.3 per cent punctuality in Mail/Express trains and 95.7 per cent in Passenger trains. Systematic action to ensure safety, like ambush checks, night inspections, safety meetings and awareness campaigns on safety like seminars, safety drives, have helped the division to be free from accidents. Effective measures were being taken to curb crimes and offences.

The division operated 573 special trains and extra coaches were temporarily attached to various Mail/Express trains to clear rush of passengers. A total of 1,108 appointments have been made in the Palakkad Divison through various sources during the year.
