Mangalore, July 8, 2013 : The renovation works of the ancient Shree Suryanarayana Temple at Maroli in Mangalore have been initiated on July 7, Sunday with the first load of stones for the purpose arriving from Tamil Nadu. The Temple will be renovated at a cost of Rs 15 crores.
The lorry was accorded a grand welcome at Pumpwell and was taken to the temple in a procession participated by several devotees and accompanied by chende teams and Nasik bands. The procession arrived at the Temple via Capitanio, Garodi and Nagori. At the temple, special pooja was offered to the stones.
A function held in this connection at Pumpwell was attended by a host of dignitaries including Ananthakrishna, ex-officio Chairman of Karnataka Bank, KC Naik, Chairman of Mahabaleshwara Builders, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Monappa Bhandari, MLC, JV Seetharam, Chairman of JV Sons, Keshava, Sabitha Misquith, Praveen Chandra Alva, Asha Gretta D’Silva, Corporators, Chittaranjan, President of Garodi Temple, Balakrishna Kottary, President of Maroli Suryanarayana Temple among others.
The renovation project include construction of a community hall in a land close by the temple. There are plans to complete the renovation in two years.
