Red Building Lane residents stage protest against road widening proposal

Mangaluru, Mar 30, 2017: Residents of Red Building Lane  of Kankanady-Valencia Ward staged a protest  in front of the MCC building on March 30, Thursday  to prevail upon the authorities to cancel the road widening project in their area.

The residents pointed out that  as much as 95 per cent of the houses in the area will have to be demolished  if the project was initiated. They also said that they have already appealed to their local corporator Asha D’Silva seeking steps to withdraw the proposal.

Antony Maxim, a local resident and member of the Action Committee addressed the protestors.

The authorities have proposed to widen the existing  road to 30 feet which is opposed by the locals who have also alleged that a fake petition was a prepared to prove that they had sought  road widening. They had even accused the local corporator of being behind this.
