Mangalore, May 20, 2014: A team of MCC officials raided several hotels in the city on May 20, Tuesday in the backdrop of the rising cases of Malaria and also to check if the hotels were maintaining cleanliness norms.
Among the hotels raided included Hotel Swagath, Hotel Bombay Lucky, Hotel Aradhana, Jain Restaurant, Sri Ganesh and Hotel Vrindavan.
The Team of MCC officials comprising Health officer Manjayyya Shetty, environment engineer Madhu, health inspectors Ramu, Yashwanth, Sushanth and Nirmala seized the trade licence of Hotel Vrindavan for violation of rules. In Jain Restaurant, the team found sale of groceries and directed the hotel authorities to either maintain it as a hotel or a grocery shop.
Almost all the hotels that were raided excluding Hotel Swagath were served notices to maintain cleanliness. Hotel Swagath was instructed to have exhaust fans fixed in the kitchen.
All the hotels which were raided were asked to meet the cleanliness norms within ten days.
Consequent upon a meeting chaired by Health Minister UT Khader recently, the MCC has already formed three teams to carry out operations in Mangalore South, Mangalore Central and Suratkal to inspect hotels and road side vendors and act against those who fail to adhere to cleanliness norms.
