Mangaluru, Dec 4, 2017: The Rama Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala organised at Bangrakulur here on December 3, Monday was inaugurated by N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University. This is the first Kambala held in Mangaluru after a gap of two years, under the aegis of the Mangaluru Kambala Samithi. As many as 85 pairs of buffaloes took part in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Hegde said it was his ardent wish that Kambala which is a symbol of the culture and ethos of the coastal district continues to receive the patronage of Kambala lovers forever.
K Prakash Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director of MNG Group inaugurated the Kambala field. MLA J R Lobo, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Kambala Committee President Capt. Brijesh Chowta, former MLA Yogish Bhat, Mayor Kavitha Sanil and many other dignitaries were present.
State Minister for Animal Husbandry K Manju also visited the Kambala venue during the course of the day.
Earlier, participating in a meeting in connection with the Kambala, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda exuded confidence that the President would give his nod to the Kambala bill very soon. Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others were present.
