Mangaluru May 27, 2016: Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo has said that rain water harvesting need to be made compulsory in Mangaluru city in order to prevent water scarcity in the future.
Addressing press persons near Thumbay Vented dam on Friday May 27, JR Lobo while referring to the acute water scarcity which hit the city in the recent couple of months, said there was a need for growing awareness about rain water harvesting in urban areas. He said the construction of the second vented dam at Thumbay would be completed by June end and added once it is complete it is possible to store water upto seven meters.
Mayor Harinath who also spoke expressed his gratitude to Mangalureans for being very supportive during water crisis. He said water in Thumbay dam was nearly 9.7 feet as of now and that it was sufficient to meet the water needs of the city.
Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangaluru North, Gopalkrishna, MCC Commissioner and others were present on the occasion.
