Rain causes wide distruction in DK and Udupi districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, June 23, 2015: Rain, accompanied by gale force winds, brought down trees and damaged electricity poles in different parts of Dakshina Kannada district June 22.  Belthangady has received highest of 50.6 mm rainfall followed by Outtur-48.28 mm, Bantwal-41 mm in the last 24 hours.

Sea Erosion.

 

A huge tree fell on a car shed and damaged a car and two-wheeler parked, at Kukkandoor in Jalsoor in Sullia taluk. Trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged following gusty wind at Ishwaramoole at Mandekolu.  A tree fell on B C Road-Dharmasthala stretch at Padagundi and disrupted the movement of traffic.  Metal sheets of Sri Vishnumurthy temple flew away with the gusty wind, at Patrame near Uppinangady.  A shop was damaged when a tree fell on it at Patrame.  Areca and banana plants and coconut trees were also reported to have been been uprooted in the region following heavy rains.

Sea erosion ;  Sea erosion has intensified near Sri Pandarinatha Bhajana Mandira, in Udyavara gram panchayat limits. If the erosion continues, there is a serious threat of damage to the concrete road.  The boulders dumped to check sea erosion is being washed away by the fury of the sea.
