Mangalore, May 02, 2014: RTO officials in a swift operation in the city on May 1, Thursday, have registered cases against a total of 18 buses including 3 KSRTC and 13 private buses for not having the emergency exit doors which have now been made mandatory. The RTO officials during their checking spree concentrated mainly on long distance night buses.
The Government has made the emergency exit doors mandatory for all luxury buses in the wake of the several mishaps wherein buses have caught fire. After setting two deadlines to have emergency exit doors, the officials are now in action to trap those who have failed to adhere to the orders.
Transport Department officials said those buses failing to adhere to rules will be seized and legal action would follow.
