Mangalore, July 2, 2013 :  The private bus employees of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have threatened to go on a one-day strike on July 17, Wednesday  if the bus operators failed to concede to their demand to provide job security.

bus strike 1A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of DK District Bus Employee’ Association held here. It was decided that both city as well as service buses would go off roads that day. The Association while hoping that the bus operators would agree to their demand by July 17  said the  employees would certainly resort to protest otherwise.

The meeting also took strong exception to the attitude of the bus operators in pressurizing the bus employees regarding the daily collection and also opposed the RTA policy of issuing permit for more than one bus on the same route with similar timings.

Some other demands put forth by the Association include action against those bus operators who were employing drivers without licences, confirming the services of employees whose owners have more than ten workers under them and to strictly adhere to the rule book.

The meeting was chaired by Ivan D’Souza, President of Dakshina Kannada Karmika Parishat. The Association has also decided to submit memoranda to the authorities concerned including the Labour minister and the DCs of both the districts regarding the demands.
