Puttur, Mar 12, 2017: Increasing instances of drug abuse cases have come up from Puttur and views that several people have fallen prey to the menace suggests that the drug mafia has been strengthening its hold in the area. Reports have informed that people have been taken into custody for selling ganja and it is also said that drug traffickers were active in and around the town.
While the police and other concerned officials have failed to curb the menace, those involved in trafficking drugs, do not seem to care as they know that they could get bail easily, thus making drugs easily available to several people.
It is said that drugs were sold at certain places especially those frequented by students. Further, it is claimed that cigarette butts and intoxicants were found at an old abandoned school building at Nellikatte. Locals have now demanded that the police patrol the spot at night.
