Mangalore, April 25, 2014 : ROTA JC Down Syndrome Academy, a special school for children suffering from Down Syndrome will be inaugurated at Rotary Manisha Building at Puttur on April 28. The Academy is an initiative of Junior Chamber of India and Rotary Puttur and aims at improving the quality of life of children suffering from Down Syndrome.
Informing this to reporters, Muliya Krishna Narayana, President of JCI, Puttur, said the school would commence operations from June 2 and was conceptualised on World Down Syndrome Day. He said the need to set up the school was felt more after he saw Suresh Nayak of Puttur who despite his disability has achieved laurels.
The classes will be held in the Academy from 10 am to 3 pm from Monday to Friday and kids in the age group of 5 and 18 suffering from Down Syndrome are eligible for admission. The children will be charged Rs 300 as monthly feel, he said. There are also plans to start a physiotherapy unit in the future, Krishna Narayana informed.
