Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, April 19,2016: Reports have come in that a two-hour fire cracker display at Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur, 60 km away from Mangaluru, was held peacefully last night.

This show is held every year as part of the annual festival of the temple, which is under the control of the government. People from Puttur and neighbouring places come to witness the show, which is held in a paddy field near the temple.

For reasons known fire cracker display this year was drastically cut down, in the light of the Kerala temple tragedy. The district administration gave permission only after temple authorities made full safety arrangements.  Only persons authorised by temple were allowed to burst the crackers.  Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said 13 kg of crackers were used.
