Puttur, May 27, 2016 : The issue regarding the show cause noticed served to a priest of the Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple over the issue of him contesting the assembly election in Kerala, has taken a new twist with the priest Kuntaru Ravish Tantri in his reply to the notice stating that the temple executive officer holds no right to slap notice on him.
The submission made by Tantri in response to the notice states that as he was appointed by the Religious and Endowment Department as per the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Executive Officer of the Temple had no right to serve notice on him.
He even pointed out that the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act does not bar a priest from being identified with any political outfit nor from contesting elections.
The submission by the priest also stated that he should be allowed to carry on his duties in the temple as earlier and that he has been discharging his duties with dedication and devotion. He has also made an appeal to withdraw the legal notice served on him.
