Puttur, April 2, 2016 : Police who are investigating into the Rajadhani Jewellers shoot-out case reported from the town on October 6 last year, have arrested a person from Uppala in Kasargod in this connection. The accused is Abdul Asir(21).
Two unidentified assailants had opened two rounds of fire at the jewellery store located at CPC Plaza in the town on the evening of October 6. Luckily, there were no casualties. The shop owner Tanaaz who is from Saangli had lodged a complaint in which he alleged that the incident might have been an attempt to eliminate him or his staff over some previous enmity.
The police arrested the accused on the basis of a tip off in the form of an anonymous call which SI Mahesh Prasad had received on April 1. The caller had informed that a youth wearing a red and blue shirt and light blue jeans was lurking suspiciously near the Kombettu Junior College and that he was hiding something in his jerkin.
The police who zeroed in on him found an unlicensed revolver and interrogations revealed that he was involved in the Rajadhani Jewelers case. It is learnt, he was an associate of Kalia Rafiq, an underworld element who was said to be involved in the shoot-out case.
The arrested youth has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
