Puttur: Officials slap penalty on overloaded sand lorries

Puttur, June 08, 2015: A team of officials led by Puttur Tahsildar MT Kullegowda has seized as many as 10 lorries which were transporting sand over and above the prescribed limit by violating the permit norms. A fine of Rs 25000 ws imposed on each lorry. The lorries were released after the fine amount was paid and after the excess of sand loaded in the lorry was  unloaded.

 

It has been gathered that the lorry drivers on gathering information of the plans of raid of the authorities   had tried to dump the excess sand on the roadside.

Meanwhile,   the Department of Mines officials along with police personnel raided a sand mining area at Donmadi in the backdrop of the ban on sand transportation to outside districts, and seized two lorries and a dredging machine. Two persons were also taken into custody.
