Puttur, Dec 30, 2016 : An elderly woman who was residing in a rented house at Haradi Karadka Compound on the Boluvar-Uppinangady road side has been found murdered on December 28, Wednesday night. The woman’s hands and legs were found tied down.
The deceased is Vinodini Kamath (79). The woman was leading a solitary life ever since her only daughter Maithri was married off eight years ago to a person from Bengaluru. The murder came to light when neighbours sensed the foul smell emanating from the locked house and peeped through the window.
Vinodini’s hands and legs were found tied using bandage cloth. At the outset it is suspected that she was smothered to death. The doors of the cupboard in the house were found open and one suspicion is that it might have been a murder for gains.
Police suspect that the woman might have been murdered at least five to six days ago. None however came to know about it as the house was found locked. Later it was found that the house was also locked from outside.
It is said the woman who had an own house at Bannur colony had sold it off after her daughter’s marriage and had been to Bengaluru. However her asthma problem had aggravated in the Bengaluru weather forcing her to return and stay in a rented house.
