Puttur, Feb 14, 2016: In a shocking case several goods weighing nearly four tonnes  were stolen from a parked goods lorry at Panjala in Uppinangady late night on February 12 ,Friday. The thieves had also stolen diesel from the fuel tank of the vehicle belonging to VRL Logistics Ltd.

The theft is learnt to have occurred when the driver Rakesh Prabhu was sleeping after stopping the vehicle  near a garage at around midnight on Friday.

The theft came to light when the driver woke up  and found the locks of the container of the lorry broken. The Puttur and Mangaluru offices of the Company were immediately informed and a police complaint was also lodged.

The driver is also learnt to have seen   people taking away some  valuables found discarded in front of the house of Jayantha of Bedrodi. It is not known how the thieves managed to steal the goods without the notice of the driver. Moreover, the fact that the thieves had discarded many goods which were in the lorry including gym accessories, helmets, papads etc gives room for doubt as to whether they were in search of any one particular item which was in the lorry.

Sources said several locals had taken away the discarded items.

Senior police officials including Puttur ASP Rishyanth, Circle Inspector  Anil Kulkarni and others visited the spot.

Further investigations are  underway.
