Puttur, July 06, 2016: Puttur Police have arrested a gang of four men who were attempting to sell a two-headed snake at Purusharakatte on July 4, Monday night. The arrested are M N Shashidhar of Madhugiri, N Ratan Gowda of Kunigal, Saleem C K of Atoor and Gagan M B of Madikeri. Police have seized the snake as well as the car used by the accused.
It is said that Ratan who had found the snake in his field had informed about it to Saleem and Shashidhar who told the former that the snake was in much demand and can be sold for lakhs of rupees in Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagalur and Shivamogga. The three had then lured Gagan working as a driver in a private firm by offering him higher fare and had arrived in Puttur to sell the snake for nearly Rupees two to three lakhs. When they failed to get buyers at Panja and other places they arrived at Purusharakatte where they were arrested.
The four have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
