Pulincha Awards conferred on Yakshagana achievers

Mangaluru, Feb 21,2016 : Veteran Yakshagana artistes Mijar Annappa, Dr Kolyur Ramachandra Rao, Kumble Sunder Rao, KH Dasappa Rai, Anantharam Bangady and Bottikere Purushottam Poonja were conferred the Pulincha Awards in memory of the late Yakshagana artiste Pulincha Ramayya Shetty at a ceremony held at the open air auditorium of Kallurti Daivasthana of Baltila village on February 20, Saturday. The Pulincha Seva Ratna Awards were conferred on retired ASI Kepu Gowda and Daiva dancer Padma Pambada on the occasion.

Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Foundation, who was the chief guest, released the Pulincha Memorial Volume on the occasion. He was all praise for the great Yakshagana artiste Pulincha Ramayya Shetty who took Yakshagana to the heights o f glory. His son Pulincha Sridhar Shetty was now doing a meaningful work by recognising and honouring Yakshagana talents, he added.

Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli, former Member of Tulu Academy, Shakuntala Shetty, MLA, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC and others were present. The programme was earlier inaugurated by Kalladi Deviprasad Shetty, the Convenor of Sri Kateel Mela.
