Public meet in M’lore today - review of environmental laws and Postal services

Mangalore, Sep 29, 2014: reliable sources inform that a high-level committee headed by T S R Subramanian constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forest will hold a public meeting in Mangalore to receive petitions from the public, to recommend amendments to the range of environmental, forest and wild life laws, at D C office in Mangalore on September 28 at 11 am.


environmentalSpeaking to media, DCF K T Hanumanthappa said that the committee will review the existing  enviornmental laws and recommend amendments on the basis of present day requirements. The committee has been constituted to look into the implementation of Environment Protection Act 1982, Forest Conservation Act 1980, Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act. The public and NGOs can submit appeals with regard to the implementation of these acts. To a query on issue on National Park and Project Tiger, the DCF said that the public can make appeal before the Committee. The committee will consult NGOs during its visit to the district and discuss on environmental issues and the need for amending existing laws.

Post office network : The Government of India has set up a Task Force for reorienting  the Post Office Network under the Chairmanship of T SR Subramanian with an objective to transform the Post Office Network, keeping in view the changing market trends and competition. The committee will meet the public and stakeholders on September 28 at 10 am.

The intention includes the rationalisation of the network with focus on mail/parcel services, particularly in rural areas, up-gradation of infrastructure/technology, incorporating global best practices, introducing new services and participation of multiple players. The committee will solicit views/comments/opinions and experiences in respect of Post Office related aspects. The committee will also visit three post offices in Mangalore on September 29.  The committee will submit its report on improving postal services in India.
