Protest against ’harassment’ of passengers from Kasaragod at MIA

Mangaluru, March 9, 2016: Kerala Muslim Youth League (MYL) activists today staged protest here over alleged harassment of passengers coming from Kasaragod district by officials of Mangaluru International Airport.

MYL Manjeshwar unit president A K M Ashraf, who addressed the protesters near the airport premises, demanded that officials taking a ’discriminatory’ attitude towards passengers from Kasaragod be immediately replaced.

It had become common for expatriates belonging to Kasaragod to bear "ill-treatment and humiliation" from airport officials, he alleged.

Poor passengers from the region were being detainedfor hours in the name of interrogation, he alleged.

Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak saidthe people of Kasaragod had supported the establishment of theinternational airport in Mangaluru.

He had also noticed such behaviour from officials while travelling from the airport, he said.

Reacting to the allegations, Airport Director J T Radhakrishna said that barring some minor incidents, MIA was one of the best in the country in terms ofcustomer satisfaction.

It was ranked second in South India andfifth among tier-two airports in the country, he said.

Not discrimination its security measures. These issues do not need any protest. they have to let them smuggle gold as to which they would be happy. Understand the fact.

MIA is not ill treating or humiliating any passengers. It is the cheap thinking making them feel so . The officers never check the passengers on the basis of the community.

The custom officers are doing their duty. Most of the people held in the Gold smuggling are from Kasargod. To avoid any thing as such they are doing so.

This cannot be called harassment. There is lot of Gold smuggling at MIA by the Passenger on the safety basis they are doing it.
