“The introduction of FASTag will deprive the local residents of exemption from paying toll at the plaza,” said the protesters.

Addressing the protesters, Gadinadu Rakshana Vedike President Siddiq Talapady said that, if the authorities fail to fulfil the demand and make FASTag mandatory, then the protest will be continued.

“The authorities have failed to complete the four-laning of the National Highway 66 and service roads. In spite of this, the toll is being collected. Payment by school vehicles will have an impact on the fee collected from the students,” said the president.

He also demanded, “All the vehicles of local residents living within 5-km radius of the toll gate should get exemption from the payment of the toll.”

Muneer Katipalla, Surathkal Tollgate Virodhi Horata Samithi convener, said that collection of toll from local vehicles at Surathkal from Sunday has been postponed by a week.

If the MP and the MLAs fail to take a decision on exemption for local vehicles from paying toll, then the contractor will start collecting toll from local vehicles after a week, he pointed out.
