Mangaluru, Jan 12, 2021: Mangaluru’s new Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar has said that priority would be given to people friendly policing in the city.
Participating in an interaction with media at the Press Club on January 12, Tuesday, the Police Commissioner while referring to the recent raids conducted on beaches in the city during evening time, said the operation aimed at warning anti-social elements and violators of rules while ensuring protection to those who adhere to the law.
He said several measures have been initiated after he took charge including action against using loud speakers inconveniencing public, drugs consumption and alcohol consumption in beaches and public places. While the measures have been appreciated by many there have also been some disgruntlement, he said adding there was resentment from some corners when a parade of drug offenders was conducted recently.
While admitting that beach tourism was a major attraction of Mangaluru, the Commissioner said spending time in beaches during night particularly in areas which are unlit is not proper and added that the presence of women in such places is also a matter of security concern.
He also assured measures to increase night patrolling in beaches. He further requested the public to call 112 in case of any problem.
