Mangalore, oct 31, 2011 :The state government has appointed Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, the director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, as the head of the new National Institute of Technology, New Delhi, established by the union government. Prof. Sancheti’s present term will conclude on Nov 17.

Prof. Sacheti has a Ph.D. from Queens University of Belfast UK, a B.Tech. (ECE) from Regional Engineering College, Warangal (NIT Warangal)in 1982, and an M.Sc. (engineering) from Delhi College of Engineering (Delhi Technological University) in 1985.

He began his career as the assistant professor of the department of ECE in MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur. He then served as an associate professor, professor, and head of the department of electronics and communication engineering at Malaviya Regional Engineering College in Jaipur and as the dean at Malaviya National Institute of Technology in Jaipur. He also served as the chairman of NIMCET, a national-level MCA entrance test. He has over 25 years of services as a teacher, researcher, and administrator.

Prof. Sancheti has also received the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship under the Colombo Plan from 1992 – 95. He also received the SERC Fellowship from DST, Indian Government, in 1998 and the UKISTRF Award from British Council in 1999 – 2000. He has also undertaken a number of research activities, consultancies, and projects from several reputed organizations.

He is also a life fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (FIETE) and Broadcast Engineering Society (LFBES), life member of ISTE, and member of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) USA. He has also been the honorary secretary and chairman of IETE (Rajasthan Centre) and is now the vice president of IEEE MTT India chapter.

Prof. Sancheti is also the founder member of the Indo-US Collaboration on Engineering Education (IUCEE), the member of the Academic Advisory Board of Microsoft (India), the member of the GOI committee on upgrading government engineering colleges, and a member of the team to conceptualize the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program II (TEQIP II).

He is a also a member of the South Western Regional Council of AICTE Bangalore and is on the editorial board of Services Research, a journal. He is also involved with several academic bodies, selection and advisory committees, and governing boards at the national level.

Prof. Sancheti is interested in researching high frequency electronics, R. F. Circuits and systems, microwave antennas, and semi conductor device modelling. He has presented over 75 papers at national and international conferences and has published papers in national and international journals.
