Mangalore, Mar 20: “Just as writing poetry requires talent, reading and understanding poetry also requires talent,” said the highly acclaimed critic Prof K R Nagaraj of Bangalore after receiving the Muliya Thimmappayya Memorial Award at a formal ceremony held at the auditorium of Canara College on Mangalore 20, Saturday. Speaking about the similarities between old and new Kannada, the award-winning critic said that the works of Pampa give great information to modern scholars.

Dr. Satyanarayana Mallipattana delivered the key-note address and said that the Muliya Thimmappayya Memorial Committee has conferred many awards on great personalities in recognition of their social, literary, and other achievements.

Erya Lakshminarayana Alva presided over the programme. Prof Shrikrishna Bhat, the senior scholar, was the chief guest.

Manorama M Bhat and Govinda Bhat were present on the occasion.
