Prashanth murder case: Police arrest 4 more accused

Mangaluru, Oct 21, 2015:  Mangaluru Police have arrested four more persons in connection with the murder of flower vendor and Bhajrangdal activist Prashanth Poojary at Moodbidri recently. With this the total arrests in the case have gone up to 8.

Those arrested are Mohammad Sharief (42) of Todar Hidayatnagar,  Mustafa Kavoor (28) of Kavoor Shantinagar,  Mohammad Mustafa (25) of Bajpe Kinnipadavu and Kabeer (28) of Kaikamba Kandavara.

Of the four, Mustafa, Mohammad and Kabeer were directly involved in the murder while Mohammad Sharief had passed on information about the presence of Prashanth in the shop.

City Police Commissioner  S Murugan who spoke to reporters on October 20, Tuesday said  the rest of the accused in the case will be arrested shortly.

The Commissioner also informed that the four accused had confessed their involvement even in the case of murder  attempt on two persons namely Ashok and Vasu  at Handelu  on September 20 and the attempt on the life  of   Jaya Kotian at Hunsekatte on October 3.

The SP also stated that the police have no clear cut information about the involvement of the accused  with any particular organisation. He also stated that the murder was pre-planned.

Dr Sanjeev M Patil, DCP ( Crime and Traffic) was also present.

All the accused have been produced before ethe court on Tuesday and they have been remanded to police custody till October 26. The sword used to kill Prashanth which the accused had discarded  in a bush near Handelu too has been seized by the police after taking the accused to the spot.
