Mangaluru, June 30, 2018: The several circles in the would-be Smart City of Mangaluru which ought to have added to the beauty of the city are proving a bane of late mainly due to ill-maintenance.
The Hamilton Circle near State Bank in the city seems to have literally turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes due to water stagnation. Though the maintenance of the circle seems to be the responsibility of a bank located nearby, neither the bank nor the MCC has made any concerted efforts to improve the condition here.
The Hamilton Circle had a fountain in the past with its pump and control room located in the nearby Rotary Park. However with the passage of time all the equipment have remained out of order, leaving the Circle completely lack- lustre.
On the contrary the nearby A B Shetty Circle is well maintained with a solar panel and LED bulbs. Though this Circle had a fountain until a few years ago, the lack of maintenance of the same had led to the transformation of the circle.
Another Circle at a prominent location in Mangaluru that calls for attention is the Rashtrakavi Govind Pai Circle, which was formerly known as Navabharath Circle. Here too there was an attractive fountain in the past but not anymore. A nearby board points out that an oil company is maintaining the circle. However, all boards including the name board of the circle are in bad shape.
Isn’t it high time the local administrations as well as the organisations which vie with each other in naming roads and circles, ensure that the city’s prominent circles are well maintained ?
