Mangaluru, Feb 24, 2017 : Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary has come down heavily on the Sangh Parivar organisations for giving a call for a bundh on February 25 to oppose the paricipation of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan in the communal harmony rally the same day.
Speaking to reporters here on February 24, Friday, Poojary said the bundh call given by the Hindu outfits like Bajrangdal, VHP and Hindu Jana Jagruthi Vedike was in contravention to the Supreme court ruling against giving bundh calls and therefore was tantamount to contempt of court.
Poojary was also all praise for Mangaluru City Police Commissioner for making elaborate measures to ensure peace in the district ahead of the rally and also to avert any untoward incident. He also described the protest organised by the Sangh Parivar as well as the bundh call given by the organisation as ’senseless’ and alleged that it revealed their destructive mentality.
Referring to the controversial Yettinahole Project, Poojary threatened to stage hunger strike at the Kudroli shrine if the government failed to drop the project at the earliest.
Kallige Taranath Shetty, Arun Coelho and others were present at the press meet.
