Mangaluru, Nov 01 2019: The Congress party in Mangaluru is embattled following ticket distribution for the upcoming MCC elections. Some Congress leaders including former Suratkal MLA Vijaykumar Shetty who addressed a press meet here on November 1, Friday said the supporters of senior leader Janardhana Poojary have been systematically sidelined and that four former mayors have been denied tickets.
Shetty also alleged that some leaders with vested interests were putting at stake the aims and objectives of the party.
Shetty said former mayor Gulzar Banu has been neglected in her own constituency and regretted that her son has been jailed over the issue of assault on a former MLA. Even former mayors Mahabala Maarla and Purandardas Kulur have been denied tickets despite them striving hard for the party, he added.
He also said former MLAs ruled the roost in choosing candidates.
Another leader Kallige Taranath Shetty who was also present said former mayor Purandardas Kulur though was assured a B Form, was denied ticket in the last minute forcing them to convene the press meet.
Shetty at the same time, exuded confidence of the party’s win in the elections. "We will wait until the announcement of results on November 14 and will later question state leaders on the injustice meted out during ticket distribution," he said.
Former mayor Purandardas Kulur was also present among others.
