Puttur, Oct 28, 2018: An 81 year old man from Kottayam in Kerala has been arrested by the Puttur Police in connection with the case of planting explosives outside a house at Polya near Kabaka.
The arrested person is Babu, a resident of Arkula Pinakat. He was absconding since the incident and was finally traced at Alakkodu of Kannur district.
The incident had taken place during the wee hours of October 16. On hearing some sound outside, house owner Narayan Prasad and his wife had come out only to see a man placing something around the house. Ina matter of a few seconds one of the gelatin sticks placed at the entrance of the house by the accused exploded injuring Shalini who is still undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
Investigations revealed that Babu stayed with Narayan Prasad couple in their house and used to also join hands with Prasad in his catering work. Initially, he stayed in a room of the Polya mosque and was subsequently asked to vacate on the grounds that his behaviour was erratic.
Meanwhile Shalini who also hailed from Kerala allowed Babu to stay with them. It is learnt, Babu had given his savings of Rs 80,000 to Narayan Prasad who had returned only Rs 20,000 out of it and had reportedly threatened when Babu had asked him to hand over the balance amount.
This is learnt to have infuriated Babu who chose to plant explosives and explode the house. The explosives placed near the kitchen and bedroom luckily did not explode and the same were defused by the bomb defusal squad.
