Mangalore, Mar 14, 2014: A.B.Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate has said that political leaders are banned from putting up banners and flex boards in their names extending best wishes to religious programmes, in view of the enforcement of the model election code of conduct.
He said use of names, photographs as well as party symbols in banners of religious programmes is totally banned and there is no scope for political activities in religious organisations.
He also said holding of political meetings in religious institutions, raising funds, stocking prohibited objects etc are punishable offences and the guilty are liable to five years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000.
