Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2017: The City Crime Branch police have arrested six notorious criminals near Tannirbavi and recovered two pistols, seven live bullets, two knives and three mobile phones.
Addressing a press meet here, DCP Shantharaju said they were planning to murder a person who recently was released from jail and plot to commit a theft in city. Acting on a tip off the police waylaid a Swift car in which the six were travelling near Tannirbavi and nabbed them. During interrogation it was found that the gang was ready to strike a wealthy person’s residence, he said.
The arrested are Safwan Hussain (33), Mohommad Faizal (33), Shamshuddin (27) from Surathkal, Abdul Nazir alias Don Nazir (34) from Yemmekere, Umar Farooq (25) and Mohommed Ansar (30) from Ullal.
Safwan Hussain has 23 charges against him which range from murder, attempt to murder, abduction, theft, assault on police among others. Goonda Act was invoked against him and he was put behind bars. He was out on bail only two months ago.
Faizal has eight cases against him, Abdul Nazir has nine cases booked against him, Umar has three cases. All of them have cases pertaining to murder, attempt to murder and theft mainly. Mohommad Ansar has no criminal credentials. Police also seized Swift car and the auto rickshaw.
The arrested persons and the seized items have been handed over to Panambur police for further investigation.
