Police raid nets 35 loads of sand

Mangaluru, May 5, 2019: A raid was conducted based on a tip-off about a group illegally extracting sand from the riverbed and selling it at higher price. Those involved in the illegal extraction of sand fled from the scene when the police arrived. A team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Saidul Adavat, raided an illegal sand extraction unit in the Netravathi backwaters at Pudu village and seized 35 loads of sand.

The police seized three tipper lorries worth Rs 24 lakh, two earth movers worth Rs 1.35 crore, a filtering unit worth Rs 80,000, 35 loads of sand worth Rs 1.10 lakh, a power generator and other things. The value of the total seized articles is over Rs 1.65 crore.

All the seized articles have been handed over to Mines and Geology Department officials who will hold  investigations further.
