Mangaluru, May 20, 2015 : After the success of the Bisu celebrations and the recent Fish Carnival, Pilikula is now all set to host a Spring Festival called “Vasanthotsava on May 24 from 10 am to 5 pm.
Speaking to reporters after participating in a meeting organised to discuss the arrangements beign made for the event, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said the main objective of Vasanthotsava was to attract the present day youth who are more inclined towards modern gadgets, rather than nature.
He said it is regrettable that people tend to neglect the Jackfruit that grows in abundance in their backyards and instead go in to buy fruits sold in malls at a high price.
There is a need to attract our youngsters towards nature and such neglected fruits. We need to reconnect them with nature, the DC added.
He also said outlines are being drawn to make arrangements to hold at least one festival each month at Pilikula from next year.
He informed that there will be an exhibition cum sale of different varieties of fruits and traditional delicacies as part of Vasanthotsava.
A Prabhaker Sharma, Executive Director of Pilikula Nisargadhama said there has been a significant increase in visitors to Pilikula during the Bisu Festival and Fish Carnival held recently.
