Pick-up driver creates ruckus; tries to molest young woman

Belthangady, July 31, 2018: An incident wherein a pick-up driver  rammed his vehicle against an  autorickshaw and tried to   sexually harass the young woman who was  travelling in the auto has been reported from Neriya.

The incident had occurred on Monday evening and resulted in a tense situation with  hundreds gathering in the area. The accused Thomas who went absconding soon after the incident was later arrested by the police.

It is alleged that Thomas  was driving the vehicle in a drunken stupor and had hit the autorickshaw near Aniyoor resulting in injuries to the auto driver. He later tried to harass the young Dalit woman in the auto before escaping.

Later Sangh Parivar activists staged a protest  following which MLA Harish Poonja arrived at the spot and  brought the situation under control. Senior police officials too visited the spot.
