Udupi, May 15, 2013: A Tempo Traveller vehicle carrying the assistants of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, met with an accident at Manki near Bhatkal on May 14, Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of the seer’s cook while injuring eight others.
The passengers in the Tempo Traveller were returning from a function in Dandeli while the seer was returning by a car. It is learnt, the vehicle rammed into a lorry killing Gopalkrishna Adiga (58) who hailed from Kodangala in Alevoor. Though all the eight injured are from Udupi, their identities are not yet known.
A total of 11 members had accompanied the seer for a pooja in Dandeli and were on the return journey. It is said the mishap took place when the Tempo Traveller tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the lorry laden with plywood and was on way to Mumbai.
Adiga was the cook of Pejawar Swamiji since 35 years and is survived by his wife. The seer came to know of the accident only when the car in which he was travelling reached Brahmavar.
