Peace Meet : Dist. Admn. urged to remove all political banners, cut-outs

Mangalore, March 1, 2014 : At a district level peace committee meeting held in the city on February 28, Friday, leaders of various organisations and parties have urged the administration to  initiate  measures towards  removal of  all  banners, cut-outs and buntings of political parties across the district.

The meet was presided over by Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim. Several of the participants in the meeting felt that measures to remove all political banners would also help in avoiding tension and unrest.

Meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat said  while adhering to election code of conduct, it must be ensured that banners pertaining to religious programmes are not removed.

Nitin Kumar, District BJP Vice President and Sadashiv Ullal, DCC General Secretary suggested that all banners which are put up unauthorisedly must be removed.

Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim President of District Congress said  false  rumours as well as banners and posters have created unrest in the district many a time. He also demanded stern measures to prevent leaders from delivering provocative speeches. Peace can prevail if action is initiated against such speakers, he demanded.

Pushparaj Jain, CREDAI Chairman said peace meetings should be held at taluk and district level once in a fortnight.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC assured to remove all unauthorised banners and cut-outs. He also suggested leaders to unite the society through their speeches. He further  said social networking sites must be used for good purposes.

Shanthanu Sinha, SP, Vishnuvardhan, DCP, Dayanand, Additional DC, Dr Prashanth, Assistant Commissioner  and other officials were present.

Though leaders of various organisations and parties were invited, the absence of most of them was glaring.
