The judge stated that more often than not, the family members of the victimised children do not file complaints immediately, which poses constraints for appropriate legal action. “There is a hesitation among the members of society in speaking up openly about the victimisation of children,” he pointed out.

judge Acharya also lamented that the victimisation of children has been happening due to degradation of moral values in the society. There is also a need to address the issue of torment undergone by the child victims, he stated.

The judge opined that it was necessary to discuss both the negative and positive aspects in the implementation of laws related to child rights.  He released a booklet on child rights.

Child Rights Trust Executive Director N V Vasudeva Acharya said that the trust is a crowd-funding organisation and focuses on the implementation of child rights. The orientation programme on child rights is being held in six places in the state – Bidar, Dharwad, Mangaluru, Melkote, Chikkaballapur and Ballari.

Child rights activists from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Mysuru took part in the orientation programme held in Mangaluru.

Senior Civil Judge Mallanagowda B Patil, District Child Welfare Committee Chairman Renni D’Souza and programme Coordinator Nagasimha G Rao were present on the occasion.
