Mangaluru, Feb 13, 2024: Panambur Krishna Bhandary, a veteran businessman and elder partner of the city-based School Book Company, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 91, due to cardiac arrest. He was the youngest son of P. Cheradappa Bhandary, the founder of the century-old School Book Company, and managed the retail outlet at Car Street. He is survived by his wife, Radha, and son, Srinivas Bhandary. Krishna Bhandary joined the School Book Company at a young age and was known for his dedication, hardworking nature, and humble demeanor.

The School Book Company was founded in 1922 by his father, P. Cheradappa Bhandary, and after his untimely demise in 1938 at the age of 47, the business was continued by the second generation, comprising his five sons.

It is today a leading books and stationery conglomerate in coastal Karnataka, with operations spanning retail, wholesale, printing and distribution. Following the passing of his eldest brother, Vishwanath Bhandary, Krishna Bhandary stepped in to lead the retail outlet at Car Street. He remained actively involved in the firm for 78 years until retiring a few years ago.

His last rites were held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM at his residence, ’Panchavati’, on K. S. Road, followed by cremation at Boloor Crematorium.
