PUCL accuses Kadri police of inaction in probing jewel theft case

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jun 27, 2013: PUCL president PB D’Sa said that Molly Vas had filed a complaint with the Kadri Police Station about the theft of gold jewelry worth Rs 12 lakhs by servant Hilda alias Anitha. But till now no FIR or no arrest has been made.

Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on June 27, Thursday, D’Sa said that Police instead of booking an FIR for the theft gave non cognizable receipt for lost gold, even though Molly had mentioned the name of Hilda as she was the only outsider, who was engaged as part time servant at her place since 3 months and had become close to her as she had no friends or relatives in Mangalore.

D’Sa said that Molly had approached PUCL on April 6 and immediately they had approached Kadri Police station. The police had also assured to arrest her immediately stating that she was already under surveillance. But the way they spoke did not give confidence and hence we met Commissioner of Police on April 15 and submitted a petition to the DCP and an FIR No 56/2013 was filed by Kadri Police but no arrest was made, D’Sa said. In fact they informed the accused Anita to obtain  anticipatory bail which she has now obtained in CR. Misc Case. No 417/2013, he further informed.

“When we met the commissioner on June 13 for follow up he did not bother to verify with Kadri station, but simply assured to look into it. This clearly shows that Police are hand in glove with criminals, especially those who have made it their profession to rob the public,” D’Sa said. “Initially the Kadri Police were trying to convince us saying that, if we enter her house and do not get any gold, it will go against us. When we have investigated we found out that this Anitha has a number of alias and she has moved the court for bail as Hilda D’Souza though FIR is in the name of Anitha,” he said adding it has also been reliably learnt from Police sources that she has a case against her in Ullal as well as Mulky Police Station.

She was also working in St Aloysius High School library as a sweeper nearly six months ago and was shunted out because she was caught robbing mobiles and purses of teachers and students,D’Sa said. According to the sources, she has a habit of travelling in buses and moves in crowd wearing burqa to rob, lady passengers and pedestrians, he further added.

J B Tauro, Molly Vas, David Norbert D’Souza and others were present.
