Kundapur, Jan 5, 2015 : Rajya Sabha member and former union minister Oscar Fernandes who on January 4, Sunday met the Raitha Sangha members who have been on an indefinite protest in front of the Varahi Project Office at Siddapur to condemn the failure of the project authorities to release water to the fields, has assured to hold talks with Udupi district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on the issue.
He further promised to convince the minister to visit the site and hold talks with the affected farmers. Oscar further even made an assurance that the matter would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who will visit Karkala for the Mahamastakabhisheka.
K Pratapchandra Shetty, MLC and district chief of Raitha Sangha told Oscar that the Varahi project is incomplete since the past several years owing to various hurdles including land acquisition and consent of Forest Department. He also feared that the project may take many more years for completion if things continue as of now. He further charged Sorake of trying to suppress the protest.
