Mangaluru, Feb 28, 2018: Pandemonium prevailed at the MCC general meeting held here on February 28, Wednesday when opposition BJP corporators raised the issue of the educational qualification of the Mayor and sought a clarification from her.
Raising the issue, opposition leader Ganesh Hosabettu who was holding a copy of the affidavit submitted by the Mayor when she was appointed to the post, pointed out that it mentioned her qualification as PUC passed through correspondence. He said the clarification was needed as the Mayor has claimed herself to be a graduate on many occasions later on.
When the BJP was persistent in its demand, all the Congress corporators rallied behind Mayor Kavitha and said it was a personal issue that need not be discussed at the MCC meet.
The Mayor who finally responded said she had all the documents regarding her educational qualification which she was ready to produce and made it clear that the MCC Council meet is meant to discuss developmental matters pertaining to the city.
The issue cooled down following the Mayor’s clarification.
The Mayor who is set to step down in the next few days following the completion of her tenure, in her thanksgiving speech, thanked the District in-charge Minister as well as the media for all the support in her endeavour to strive for the development of the city. She also made it a point to state that she was appreciated by dignitaries including the President, Prime Minister, Governor and Chief Minister during their visit to the city. She also promised to continue her social work as earlier even after her tenure ends.
