Mangaluru, Nov 12, 2023: One year after the death of mystic vegetarian crocodile Babiya, another crocodile appeared for the first time in Ananthapura Lake Temple in Kasaragod. With confirmation from temple priest Subrahmanya Bhatt and officials, there is currently a mad rush from devotees to catch a glimpse of the new crocodile.

Babiya, the crocodile who stood as the guardian of the god in the temple, passed away on October 9, 2022. The new crocodile was first spotted by a native of Kanhangad. Subsequently, we also confirmed the presence of the crocodile during our search in the lake.”

Meanwhile, temple committee members said that a meeting will be held to discuss the new crocodile found in the temple lake, where Babiya had also lived for nearly 80 years. Devotees considered Babiya as a reincarnated God and protector of the temple. The crocodile was eating the ‘nivedya’ offered to the deity.

Devotees used to wait for the crocodile to come out, when the priest offered nivedya after daily rituals at the temple. Hundreds of devotees had visited the temple to see the revered crocodile when burial took place in the presence of Brahmashri Delampady Ganesha Thanthri on October 10 last year.
