Bantwal, April 26, 2014: The impasse over the Brahmarakootlu toll gate does not seem to be ending or subsiding. In a latest development, the Nagarika Hitharakshana Samithi staged a huge protest near the toll plaza demanding that the toll gate be shifted.
The protestors alleged that the toll plaza staff were rude and were behaving in a high-handed fashion and the toll charges collected by them was irregular. The protestors also blocked the road and stopped toll collection.
Chandraprakash Shetty, President of the Samithi and ZP member who spoke on the occasion, claimed that the toll plaza was not authorised as toll is being collected even before the NH work was complete. He also stated that the place had no basic facilities.
Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, Zilla Panchayat members M S Mohammed, Mamatha Gatty and others who spoke also demanded shifting of the toll plaza and warned of protest otherwise.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to Union Minister for Surface Transport Oscar Fernandes, District Minister Ramanatha Rai, Project Director of NHAI, Bantwal Tahsildar Malleswamy and Assistant Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu.
The protest was withdrawn after the AC who accepted the memorandum assured to consider the demands.
