Padubidri, July 8, 2014: The Udupi District unit of the Human Rights Parishat which had recently rescued two elderly women who were abandoned by their families in Ajekar, have now come to the aid of another old woman who was suffering from acute Filariasis and was leading a solitary life.
Office bearers of the Parishat on coming to know about the woman, rushed to her residence at Kajanadka Gurmeru and have admitted her to the Ajjarkad Government Hospital where Dr Chandrashekhar Adiga has begun her treatment.
The woman Agnes D’Souza (74) o was leading a solitary life in a house constructed with the help of public and local church. Around 15 days ago her condition worsened with pus formation in her leg. She was admitted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore with the help of locals and church authorities. However, the doctors there who said the disease could not be cured, assured to change her bandage if someone is beside her. However as the woman had no relatives, she was taken back to her home where her bandage was changed regularly with the help of locals.
Moved by her pathetic state. Rev. Fr Victor G D’Souza, Parish Priest of St. Teresa and Child Jesus Church Santoor-Mukamer had written to the Parishat which immediately rushed to her aid.
Udaykumar Shetty, District President of the Parishat has assured to get her admitted to some old age home once she recovers.
