Mangaluru, Aug 24, 2019: Police have arrested two persons of Kasmir origin who were lurking suspiciously in a car of Punjab registration near PVS Circle in the city. Those arrested are Basith Shah alias Shaukat Ahamed and his driver Baljinder Singh (48), believed to be an accomplice.
Addressing at a press meet, city police commissioner Dr Harsha PS, informed that, on August 17, two men were found moving in suspicious manner in a car with a board belonged to World Health Organisation (WHO). When enquired the police learned that Basith was not director of WHO and he was cheating people by acting so.
The duo, whose origin was traced to Punjab and Kashmir, are being interrogated about their operations in city, said the city police commissioner. Police have seized their ID and other documents and have said that they used to cheat the public through fake documents.
Baljinder Singh who was driving the car told the police that he worked for Basith Shah for two years and that the car belonged to him but was used by Shah who paid him Rs 20,000 per month and met all other expenses of the car.
